Social Support

We provide a range of services for eligible Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Home and Community Care Programs for Young People (HACC PYP).  Our services are supported by funding from the Commonwealth and Victorian State Governments. Our Social Support Programs are provided free to eligible clients.

Telecare:

Telecare provides beneficial support to those who live in their own homes by receiving a morning call from our volunteers every morning or on a morning that the recipient specifies. This service is important and throughout the year we have had occasions when we have made further checks on the clients who did not answer the phone call made to them. This service is free and provides the recipient not only a chance to have a social conversation, it provides the security for the person receiving the call and/or their family. It is reassuring in knowing that someone will ring on the days chosen.

Talking Casterton News:

The Casterton Community Centre offers a Talking Newspaper service to those who are vision impaired or have a print disability. The weekly Casterton News is read by a volunteer onto a computer recording program and then transferred to a disc and sent out to our recipients in a mailing pocket. The service enables locals to keep up with all the local news each week.

Friendly Visiting:

Friendly Visiting is provided on a one-on-one basis with a volunteer visiting the person in their own home. The service provides an opportunity for companionship and social interaction. The visits are provided on a mutually agreed basis and most visits usually take place weekly, ensuring continuity is maintained. Volunteers are matched to a client with similar interests and protocols and procedures are in place for mutual benefit.

If you know anyone who might benefit from our services please ring the centre to speak with Susan Joyce to find out more about these and our other services, Friendly Visiting and the Talking Casterton News.

Brochures:

We hold a selection of Brochures and Pamphlets on the various services available.
